Macera tes and extracts

The Macera tes and extracts category includes oil‑based herbal infusions and functional extracts that transfer bioactive substances, colorants and aromas into cosmetic formulations. They are used in facial, body and hair care as regenerating, emollient and antioxidant components.

Oil macerates are produced by steeping plants in vegetable oils, thereby enriching the oil phase of emulsions and oil‑based preparations. The range also includes specific extracts, for example fermented rice water suitable for the water phase. You can find other basic raw materials for formulation in the Basic raw materials category.

Arnica (oil macerate)

Macerate containing plant substances traditionally used in the care of stressed skin and for local massage. Supports skin comfort and improves the stability and sensory properties of emulsions and balms. Details and available pack sizes can be found in the Arnica product.

Chamomile (oil macerate)

Gentle macerate suitable for sensitive skin, for baby care and soothing care; popular in creams and body milks. Soothes and softens, increases comfort during application. More information can be found in the Chamomile product.

Comfrey (oil macerate)

Classic herbal macerate for ointment and balm bases, suitable for the care of stressed areas. Supports the sensation of elasticity and regeneration of the skin. More about use can be found in the Comfrey product.

Calendula (oil macerate)

Popular macerate for creams, milks and balms for dry or sensitive facial and body skin. Acts as an emollient, softens and improves the protective skin film. Details can be found in the Calendula product.

Carotene (oil macerate)

Macerate rich in carotenoids to support a radiant appearance and antioxidant protection; suitable for day creams and body oils. Gives a subtle warm hue and acts as an antioxidant. More information can be found in the Carotene product.

Fermented rice water (extract)

Aqueous raw material obtained by fermentation for skin and hair care; suitable for toners, serums, shampoos or conditioners. Supports hydration, smoothing of the hair fibre and the overall condition of the skin. Details can be found in the Fermented rice water product.

FAQ – Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a macerate and an extract?

A macerate is a plant infusion in oil (for the oil phase), whereas an extract can be in water, glycerine or another base (for the water phase). There is also a difference in concentration and in compatibility with the formulation.

How to dose oil macerates in creams and balms?

Typically 1–10 % depending on the type of macerate and the goal of the formulation; in ointment bases even more. For sensitive skin, start at the lower end of the dosage range.

Where to place fermented rice water in the formulation?

It is an aqueous raw material – it belongs in the water phase of toners, serums or emulsions. It is important to provide preservation and pH adjustment according to the manufacturer’s recommendations.

Can I combine macerates with essential oils?

Yes, at low dosages and with regard to dermal safety. Essential oils are added to the oil phase or to the cooling emulsion at a suitable temperature.

How to store macerates and extracts?

Store oil macerates in the dark and cool, well closed; protect aqueous extracts from light and heat and use a preservative in finished products.
