Crackling wooden wick is intended for professional production of candles in glass containers, decorative jars or other suitable containers. Thanks to its construction, it creates a pleasant crackling effect while burning, which resembles burning in a fireplace and increases the perceived comfort and added value of the finished product.
This type of wick is optimized for use with high-quality waxes, where it ensures stable burning and even consumption of the candle when the diameter of the container and the wax blend are correctly selected. Wood as a natural material supports a specific visual and sound effect and gives candles a unique character suitable for artisanal and semi-professional production.
The wooden wick is intended to be combined with suitable candle containers – glass vials, jars or pots that withstand heat and are stable during burning. When choosing the packaging, we recommend selecting a sufficiently wide container, which will allow safe burning of the wax around the wick and stable fixing in the sustainer.
Candle containers are not combined with pumps or sprayers, but within the Handymade.sk range you can complement candles with matching cosmetic packaging – for example bottles with pumps or sprayers to create coherent gift sets. Combinations of packaging and closures that are created directly on Handymade are tested and functional. However, for all combinations we always recommend performing your own compatibility test (sealing, dosing and behaviour of the packaging in contact with the specific formulation).

The choice of the width of the wooden wick depends on the diameter and shape of the container, as well as on the wax blend used. It is recommended to start according to the recommended diameter given in the product parameters and then make a test candle. When testing, observe whether a continuous wax “pool” is created after 2–3 hours of burning and whether the candle does not smoke excessively or burn too weakly. For wider containers, it may be necessary to use two wicks next to each other or a larger wick width.
Wooden wicks are generally compatible with various types of waxes, such as natural plant waxes, soy blends and paraffin. However, the behaviour of the wick may differ depending on the viscosity, additives and the proportion of perfume in the blend. Therefore, it is always necessary to perform your own burning tests with the specific wax and fragrance percentage in order to achieve optimal flame height, burning rate and flame stability throughout the entire life of the candle.
The wooden wick can be adjusted with sharp scissors or a wood cutter so that it corresponds to the height of the selected container. After pouring the candle, we recommend leaving approximately 3–5 mm of wick above the wax surface and, if necessary, slightly adjusting it before the first lighting. During further use of the candle, it is suitable to shorten the wick to a similar length after cooling, which helps to limit smoking and to maintain a stable flame.
The container in which a wooden wick has been used can, under observance of hygienic principles, be repeatedly filled with new wax. Before refilling, it is necessary to remove wax residues and the old wick sustainer, wash the container thoroughly and then disinfect it using a suitable alcohol, for example IPA 99 % isopropyl alcohol or ethanol 96 % denatured plant-based. Only after cleaning and drying can you safely pour new wax into the container and fit a new wooden wick.
