Product description

The wooden wick represents a natural and visually attractive solution for the production of candles in jars, pots or other containers. Thanks to stable burning and a typical gentle crackling sound, it is suitable for creating atmospheric indoor candles, where not only functionality but also aesthetics and user comfort are important. The construction of the wick supports even burning of the wax and the minimisation of soot formation when the wax and container size are correctly selected.

Possible uses

  • Production of decorative candles in glass bottles, jars and pots
  • Soy, rapeseed, coconut and other natural waxes intended for containers
  • Paraffin candles in jars and various types of containers
  • Aromatic candles with candle-safe fragrances and essential oils
  • Designer candles in recycled packaging (small jars, glass bottles, jars)

Packaging benefits

  • Stable and even burning – the wooden wick creates a compact flame that supports even melting of the wax in the container and reduces the risk of tunnelling.
  • Natural material – wood looks natural and aesthetic, underlining the artisanal character of handmade candles.
  • Acoustic effect – the typical gentle crackling of the wooden wick while burning enhances the experience of using the candle and completes the atmosphere.
  • Easy integration into containers – suitable for use in various types of jars, bottles or pots intended for candles when the wick is correctly fixed.
  • Visually attractive flame – the shape and character of burning are popular with premium and gift candles.

Combining with closures and dispensers

When producing candles in containers, it is necessary to choose a suitable bottle, jar or pot with a sufficient diameter and heat resistance. Wooden wicks are usually used without closures during burning, but the packaging can be supplemented with a lid to protect the candle during storage and transport. Combinations of packaging and closures that are created directly on Handymade are tested and functional. However, for all combinations we always recommend performing your own compatibility test (sealing, behaviour of the packaging during burning and in contact with the wax and fragrance used).

FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions

How do I choose the right size of wooden wick for my candle container?

When choosing a wooden wick, the diameter of the container and the type of wax are important. As a general rule, wider containers and more viscous waxes require a more powerful wick. We recommend starting with a trial production of a candle in the selected packaging and performing a burn test down to the bottom of the container to verify the width of the melt pool, flame height and burning stability. Whenever you change the wax or fragrance concentration, always carry out a new test.

How do I correctly fix a wooden wick in a jar or other container?

It is advisable to fix the wooden wick using a metal or special base designed for wooden wicks, or by using a heat-resistant adhesive pad. Attach the base firmly to the bottom of the container so that the wick stands upright and does not move during wax pouring. It is recommended to pour the wax at the temperature recommended by the wax manufacturer and let the candle cure in a calm environment without vibrations.

Is the wooden wick suitable for all types of waxes and fragrance blends?

Wooden wicks can be used with several types of waxes, such as soy, vegetable or paraffin waxes, as well as with candle-grade fragrances. However, each combination of wax, fragrance, dye and container size affects the burning. Therefore, we recommend performing a series of burn tests for each new candle recipe, during which you monitor flame stability, complete melting of the wax and any possible soot formation.

Can I reuse the packaging in which I use a wooden wick for other candles?

The packaging, such as a glass jar, bottle or jar used for candles, can be reused after the candle has burned out, provided it is not damaged and basic hygiene rules are observed. First remove wax residues mechanically and clean the packaging. Before pouring new wax, we recommend thoroughly cleaning and disinfecting the container with a suitable agent, for example isopropyl alcohol or ethanol, such as the products IPA 99 % isopropyl alcohol and Ethanol 96 % denatured vegetable. If you decide not to reuse the packaging, we recommend sorting it into the appropriate separate collection according to the type of material, in accordance with local recycling rules.

You offer many types of packaging – how can I find the right one for my product?

For quick searching of suitable packaging for candles or other products, we recommend using the advanced filter, which is available at the top of the page after clicking on the relevant packaging category. In the advanced filter you can combine several criteria, such as neck type, size, colour and packaging material. Thanks to this, you can easily find bottles, jars or pots that will suit your formulation and the design of the final product.
