MOISTURISING BODY BUTTER - TIPS AND TRICKS

Want to make your moisturizing body butter easier to make or not sure about the steps? Check out our tips and tricks to find out more.

Allow the melted ingredients from stage A to solidify long enough so that there are no liquid oils at the bottom of the container. The goal is to get a thick, solidifying mixture that is no longer liquid, but on the other hand, not completely hardened into a solid. Cooling of the mixture is essential to whip the product properly.

Whisk the cornstarch into the product gradually so that it does not form lumps. Be sure to whisk in the tocopheryl acetate and essential oil as well, so as not to create spots with higher concentrations of these substances.

Stop whisking as soon as you have reached the desired consistency after whisking all the ingredients. This could overbeat the product and cause the body butter to lose its fluffy, cake-like consistency.

A classic kitchen beater with two whisks is best suited for whipping, for example for whipping cake creams or egg whites. Therefore, use a larger container (wider) so that the whisks will fit into the container.

MOISTURISING BODY BUTTER - INGREDIENTS AND VARIATIONS

Want to learn how to customize a moisturizing body butter to your liking? With our advice, you'll discover which ingredients are key and how to vary them to get the results you want.

COCAUT BUTTER

Cocoa butter is the favourite vegetable butter for making whipped body butters. This butter has the advantage that it melts on contact with the skin, so applying such products is quick
and pleasant. The unrefined version used in this product has a characteristic chocolate scent, but if this scent bothers you, you can also reach for the deodorised version of cocoa butter.

In general, you can substitute other types of vegetable butters for the butters in this recipe. Keep in mind, however, that the higher the proportion of higher melting point vegetable butters you choose, thethe more melting the resulting body butter will have a firmer consistency (you will whip a stiffer cream) and will melt more slowly on the skin.

ILLIPE BUTTER

A great butter for restoring skin elasticity is illipe butter. This is a soft butter made from the nuts of the illipe tree. This butter melts between 34 and 38°C, so it will melt on contact with the skin. In addition to its ability to soften the skin, it provides hydration and care to dry and cracked skin.

When substituting illipe butter in a recipe, follow the same procedure as for cocoa butter. Of course, you can also adjust the representation of this butter in the recipe to affect the resulting texture and consistency of the product. If you want a body butter with a creamier, less solid consistency, reduce the vegetable butters in the recipe.

CETEARYL ALCOHOL

Cetearyl alcohol has been chosen to reduce the greasiness of the final body butter. This fatty alcohol takes the form of wax-like granules and, in addition to its co-emulsifying properties , provides the product with stiffness
and strength. Cetearyl alcohol thus firms the final whipped butter and helps to form a protective film on the skin that prevents excessive water loss and drying.

Again, by reducing the amount of cetearyl alcohol in the recipe you will get a body butter with less stiffness, it will have a more creamy texture. If you don't currently have cetearyl alcohol, cetyl alcohol is also a good alternative.

CALENDULA MACERATE IN SUNFLOWER OIL

you can enjoy the active ingredients of calendula in oil form thanks to macerates. Thus, with calendula macerate in sunflower oil you can replace the classic vegetable oils in a recipe and get the benefits of this medicinal plant for your skin.

Of course, you can replace the calendula macerate with another vegetable oil. Or there is the possibility to reach
for other macerates
, such as carrot macerate. In the case of carrot macerate, however, you should be aware that the resulting body body butter may take on an orange tinge and with a higher proportion of carrot macerate
in the recipe, the body butter may leave orange stains on clothing.

MCT CAPRYLIS - NEUTRAL OIL

The combination of caprylic/capric triglycerides that make up MCT Caprylis Neutral Oil will ensure that the final body butter will feel less greasy on the skin and will be more easily absorbed. MCT caprylis is a great option to reduce the greasiness of products that contain oils, you can use it to replace vegetable oils in a wide range of recipes. However, if you have a favorite vegetable oil, feel free to substitute MCT Caprylis with your favorite oil.

CORN STARCH

Another ingredient for reducing the greasy feeling on your skin is cornstarch. starches in general are known for their ability to bind fats and grease to the skin, which is why you'll often find them represented in powdered dry shampoos or lotions.

You can substitute another starch for the cornstarch in the recipe, try rice starch for example, which produces a silky smooth feel on the skin. If you increase the amount of starch in the product by a few percent, you'll end up with a body butter that's even a little less greasy. On the other hand, too much starch can cause the body butter to not whip up well, have lumps in it, or be too stiff to apply easily.

You can also leave out the cornstarch, but be aware that it will change the texture of the product and the way it feels on the skin.

TOCOPHERYL ACETATE

Vitamin E is a fat-soluble antioxidant that prolongs the freshness of oils and delays their rapid oxidation. It is
not an essential part of body butter
, but you can enjoy the product longer thanks to the use of an antioxidant. Tocopheryl acetate can also be substituted with 96% tocopherol.

ESSENTIAL OIL

To obtain the subtle citrusy-woody scent in the body butter, lemongrass essential oil was used.
When selecting essential oils for your product, you have a wide variety to choose from, please observe allthe dosage published with the product (for example, according to IFRA standards) to avoid an adverse allergic reaction.

Of course, you can also omit the essential oil from the product altogether, or you can reach for fragrance oils that are synthetic substitutes for the essential oilon the other hand, they offer an even wider range of fragrances, including those that are unavailable in essential oil form.
