Product description

Crackling wooden wick 9.5 mm (100 pcs) is a special type of wick designed for making design candles in jars, pots and various decorative containers. Thanks to its stable construction, even burning and the characteristic crackling reminiscent of a fireplace, it is suitable for candles made from vegetable as well as paraffin waxes. With the correct choice of container diameter, it provides an aesthetic flame, a pleasant sound backdrop and controlled burning, which is appreciated by home makers and professional candle brands alike.

Possible uses

  • Production of candles in glass jars, canisters and decorative containers for home use and for sale
  • Candles made from natural waxes (soy, rapeseed, coconut and their blends) with an emphasis on atmosphere and design
  • Candles made from paraffin or blended waxes with a higher proportion of fragrance or colorant
  • Aromatherapeutic candles with essential oils, where a stable flame and gradual release of aroma are important
  • Decorative and gift candles in small and medium-sized containers, suitable for limited collections

Packaging benefits

  • Material stability – the wooden wick has a firm structure which, when poured correctly into the wax, holds its shape well and minimizes tipping over or sinking in the molten wax.
  • Protection of the candle content during burning – even burning supports stable melting of the wax, reducing the risk of tunneling and increasing the use of the entire fill of the container.
  • Universal use with different types of waxes – suitable for vegetable and paraffin waxes; however, the choice of the specific type of wick and container diameter requires your own testing.
  • Aesthetic and sound effect – the characteristic gentle crackling during burning increases the perceived value of the candle and differentiates it from classic cotton wicks.
  • Consistent length and processing – supplied in a pack with uniform dimensions, which facilitates serial production and repeatability of the result across multiple candle batches.

Combining with closures and dispensers

The packaging and containers into which this crackling wooden wick is fitted are compatible with various types of closures and accessories depending on the chosen packaging solution – from simple lids through decorative screw caps to design candle covers. For bottles, jars or pots for candles it holds that they are compatible with different types of closures and dispensing (for example screw caps, protective covers, decorative lids or practical packaging elements) according to the selected parameters of the specific container. Combinations of packaging and closures that are created directly on Handymade are tested and functional. However, for all combinations we always recommend carrying out your own compatibility test – in particular the behaviour of the wax, the burning of the wick, the sealing and the stability of the packaging in contact with the specific wax blend and fragrance.

FAQ – Frequently asked questions

How to correctly choose the size of the container for this wooden wick?

When choosing a container for a crackling wooden wick, testing in the specific wax blend is important. It is recommended to start with a container whose diameter is adapted to the declared use of the wick given in the product parameters, and then perform a trial pour. Observe whether the wax melts evenly up to the edges of the container within 2 – 3 hours of burning and whether the flame is not too low or, on the contrary, extremely high. For wider containers, it is possible to consider using two wicks side by side, but always after thorough burning tests.

For which types of waxes is the crackling wooden wick suitable?

The crackling wooden wick can be used with most common candle waxes – soy, rapeseed, coconut, paraffin and blended variants. For each type of wax, added pigments and fragrances, however, it is necessary to carry out your own burning tests in order to fine-tune the optimal ratio of container diameter, wick height and wick type. Different density and viscosity of the wax can affect the size of the flame, the rate of burning and the formation of the melt pool.

How to prevent smoking or excessive sooting of the wooden wick?

To minimize smoking, it is important to maintain an appropriate wick length and to verify compatibility with the specific wax blend. Before each relighting of the candle, shorten the wick to the recommended length according to the manufacturer’s instructions or to approximately 3–5 mm so that the flame is stable. Avoid oversaturating the candle with fragrance or essential oils, as too high a fragrance dosage can promote smoking. The quality of the wax and the cleanliness of the container during pouring are also important.

Is it possible to reuse the wooden wick after the candle has burned out?

Wooden wicks are intended primarily for single use within one candle and, after complete burning, are usually replaced with a new wick. The container in which the candle was poured can, however, be reused for pouring another candle, provided that hygiene rules are observed. Before refilling, wax residues must be removed, the container thoroughly cleaned and, if necessary, disinfected with a suitable product in order to prevent undesirable reactions between the old and new wax. Repeated use of the container is only appropriate if it is not damaged or cracked.

How to safely dispose of and recycle the wooden wick and the container after the candle has finished burning?

After the candle has finished burning, it is advisable first to consider reusing the container – after removing wax residues and thoroughly cleaning it, you can use it again for another candle or for other decorative purposes. If you decide not to reuse the packaging, follow the recycling rules according to the container material listed in the parameter table for the product on the Handymade website. The wooden wick or its remnants belong to mixed or biodegradable waste according to local collection rules, while glass or other containers must be placed in the appropriate bin according to their material. Always remove any metal or adhesive parts, if present, so that recycling is effective.
