Product description

The 9.5 mm crackling wooden wick is a special component for the production of natural candles in glass containers, jars or design tins. Thanks to its construction, it supports stable burning of vegetable waxes and creates a characteristic gently crackling effect that completes the atmosphere of handmade candles. The wick is suitable for use in combination with packaging intended for candles and complements both their functionality and aesthetics.

Possible uses

  • Handmade candles in glass vials, jars and decorative containers
  • Soy, coconut and other vegetable waxes poured into design tins
  • Aromatic candles containing fragrance oils and essential oils
  • Decorative candles in recycled packaging (glass bottles, medicine bottles, small jars)
  • Candles intended as an addition to cosmetic sets in gift packaging

Packaging advantages

  • Material stability – the wood used for the production of the wick is strong, dimensionally stable and, when poured correctly with wax, ensures even burning.
  • Protection of the candle content – a suitably chosen wick width supports optimal melting of the wax near the walls of the vial or jar, which reduces the risk of tunneling.
  • Natural character – the wooden wick complements glass and other packaging materials with a natural or minimalist design and highlights the artisanal character of the product.
  • Universal use – suitable for various container shapes, from small glass medicine bottles to larger decorative tins, depending on the selected type of wax and the packaging diameter.
  • Possibility of combination with various label and closure styles, making it ideal for gift sets and candle collections.

Combining with closures and dispensers

The wooden wick is used together with a suitable container – vial, tin or jar – which serves as the final packaging of the finished candle. When choosing the packaging, it is important to take into account the diameter of the container, the type of wax and the desired burning pattern. Packaging intended for candles is compatible with various types of closure (for example metal lids or decorative covers), with the wick fixed in the centre of the container using a holder or an adhesive dot.

Combinations of candle packaging and components created directly on Handymade are tested and functional. However, for all your own combinations, we always recommend carrying out an individual compatibility test – to verify the behaviour of the wick in the selected wax, with the selected container diameter and during real use of the candle, including a safe distance of the wick from the edges of the packaging.

All technical parameters of the packaging are given in the attached Packaging Quality Certificate and in the product parameters.

FAQ – Most frequent questions

You offer many types of packaging – how can I find the right one for my product?

After clicking on the selected packaging category, you will find an extended filter at the top of the page, which will help you filter suitable vials, tins, jars or medicine bottles. You can set parameters such as neck finish, size, colour and material, which will help you quickly find a container that best matches your formulation and product type (for example candle, cosmetic preparation or liquid content).

How to choose a suitable container for the 9.5 mm crackling wooden wick?

When selecting a vial or tin, it is important to take into account the diameter of the container, the type of wax and the desired burning time. The 9.5 mm crackling wooden wick is intended mainly for small to medium-sized candle containers. We always recommend making a trial series – pouring a smaller amount of wax into the selected container and testing the burning (melt pool width, flame length and evenness of burning) before the final production of a larger quantity of candles.

Is it possible to reuse candle containers together with new wooden wicks?

Glass packaging, vials and tins for candles can be reused, provided hygienic principles are observed. Before refilling, it is always necessary to mechanically clean the packaging from wax and wick residues and then clean and disinfect it thoroughly, for example using a suitable alcohol such as isopropyl alcohol or ethanol. For disinfection you can use the products IPA 99 % isopropyl alcohol or Ethanol 96 % denatured vegetable. A container prepared in this way is suitable for reuse with a new wooden wick and fresh wax.

How to safely dispose of and recycle the packaging after the candle with wooden wick has burned out?

If you decide not to reuse the packaging after the candle has burned out, it is appropriate to recycle it according to the material specified in the parameters of the particular product (for example glass vial, tin or jar). Remove wax residues and metal or wooden parts of the wick and clean the container. Glass packaging is usually sorted into glass containers, plastic parts according to the type of plastic into the appropriate container. Always follow local waste sorting rules and the information on the material given for the respective packaging on the product page.

Can I use the wooden wick also with other types of packaging from the Handymade range?

The wooden wick can be combined with various types of containers – from glass vials and medicine bottles to wider decorative tins, provided they are suitable for pouring candles and resistant to the temperature of the molten wax. Before final production, we recommend testing the burning of the candle in the particular type of container, verifying the stability of the wick, the behaviour of the flame and the distance from the walls of the packaging, in order to ensure both safety and an aesthetic result.
