Product description

The wooden wick represents a modern and designer solution for candle making, combining the aesthetics of a natural material with practical functionality. Thanks to its shape and stable burning, it is suitable for poured candles in glass, smaller containers and decorative jars. With a properly selected wax blend, the wick ensures even burning and a clean burnout of the candle without excessive smoking.

The wooden wick is popular for its gentle crackling reminiscent of a fireplace, which gives candles a premium character and creates a pleasant atmosphere. It is suitable for natural and blended waxes, where, with correct calibration of the candle diameter and wax composition, it supports a stable flame and a professional result in home and artisan candle production.

Possible uses

  • Production of designer candles in glass containers, jars and cups
  • Candles from natural waxes (soy, rapeseed, coconut and their blends)
  • Scented candles with essential and fragrance oils
  • Atmospheric indoor candles for relaxation, aromatherapy and decoration
  • Gift and limited editions of candles in original packaging

Packaging benefits

  • Natural material – the wooden wick is made of wood, which supports the environmentally responsible and naturally appearing character of your candles.
  • Stable burning – with proper coordination of container diameter, wax type and fragrance, it provides even burning and an aesthetic flame.
  • Gentle crackling – while burning, it can produce a characteristic acoustic effect that enhances the user experience.
  • Design appearance – wood looks modern and minimalist, suitably complementing both clear and coloured candle packaging.
  • Compatibility with various containers – the wooden wick can be used in glass bottles, jars, cups or other containers intended for candle production.

Combining with closures and dispensers

  • The wooden wick is intended for use in candle containers, where it replaces the classic cotton wick and does not require closures or dispensers in the usual sense of the word.
  • When choosing a suitable container, we recommend selecting stable glass or heat-resistant packaging that is adapted to candle burning and has sufficient distance between the wick and the container wall.
  • For an optimal result, it is advisable to test the combination of the specific wax, fragrance, container diameter and wick length so that the burning is safe, even and aesthetic.
  • The combinations of packaging and closures that are created directly on Handymade are tested and functional. However, for all combinations we always recommend carrying out your own compatibility test (sealing, dosing and behaviour of the packaging in contact with the specific formulation).

Technical parameters

  • All technical parameters of the packaging are given in the attached Packaging Quality Certificate and in the product parameters.
  • We recommend that you carefully study the technical data so that you can choose a suitable type of wax, container diameter and method of pouring the candle.
  • During testing, monitor the flame height, burning rate and behaviour of the wax melt pool layer so that the candles are safe to use.

FAQ – Most frequently asked questions

How do I choose the right size of wooden wick for my candle?

The selection of a wooden wick depends mainly on the container diameter, wax type and the amount of fragrance used. We recommend starting by testing on a smaller series of candles with different combinations of diameter and wax type and then monitoring the flame height, wax melting rate and burnout to the edge of the container. A correctly chosen wick will ensure even burning without excessive smoking and tunnelling of the candle.

Do I need to prepare the wooden wick in any special way before pouring the candle?

The wooden wick is usually used in combination with a metal or other suitable holder which is attached to the bottom of the container and fixed in the centre. Before pouring the wax, it is recommended to secure the wick firmly so that it remains in the centre of the container and does not move during wax cooling. Some manufacturers prefer briefly “soaking” the wick in wax and then letting it cure; however, it is always important to adapt the procedure to the specific wax type and candle design.

Can the wooden wick be used also for more strongly fragranced candles?

The wooden wick can also be used for more intensely fragranced candles; however, it is necessary to take into account that a higher fragrance load can affect burning. For strongly fragranced blends, we recommend making several test pours, monitoring flame stability and adjusting the length and type of wick so that the candle burns safely and without excessive smoking.

Can I reuse the containers after the candle has burned out with a new wooden wick?

Containers in which candles have been poured can be reused, provided that hygiene and safety principles are observed. Before refilling, it is necessary to remove residual wax, check the integrity of the container and then clean and disinfect it thoroughly. For disinfection, we recommend using a suitable alcohol-based product, such as isopropyl alcohol or ethanol, available in our range on the pages IPA 99 % isopropyl alcohol or Ethanol 96 % denatured plant-based. Only after thorough cleaning and drying of the container is it possible to insert a new wooden wick and refill it with wax.

How should I correctly dispose of or recycle the container after the candle with a wooden wick has burned out?

If you decide not to reuse the container after the candle has burned out, we recommend recycling it according to the material specified for the particular packaging in the product parameters on our website. Wax residues and wick components should be mechanically removed and the container cleaned. Glass packaging is usually placed in separated glass collection; for other materials (e.g. metal lids or plastic components), proceed according to the relevant recycling symbol given in the technical parameters of the respective packaging.

You offer a lot of packaging – how can I find the right one for my product?

To make selecting packaging easier, you can use the advanced filter located at the top of the page after clicking on the relevant packaging category. Within the filter, products can be sorted according to several parameters, such as neck type and size, overall packaging size, colour and material used. Thanks to this, you can quickly find a bottle, jar or cup that best suits your project and is also suitable for combination with wooden wicks in candle production.
