The wooden wick is an ideal component for creating designer candles in glass containers, jars or decorative vessels. Thanks to its stable construction, it provides even burning and an effective gentle crackling that highlights the natural character of handmade candles. It is suitable for paraffin-based waxes as well as plant-based waxes, provided the specific blend is properly tested.
The wooden wick is designed to ensure stable, controlled burning and optimised fragrance release from the candle. The solid structure of the material supports a consistent flame and allows its use in various types of containers and decorative packaging intended for candles.
The wooden wick is used in combination with containers intended for candles – glass jars, pots or decorative tins. When creating candles, it is necessary to choose the container size, wax type and fragrance load correctly so that burning is stable and safe. Combinations of packaging and candle components created directly on Handymade are designed to be functional and practically usable in both small-scale and larger artisanal production. For all combinations, however, we recommend carrying out your own test of burning behaviour, wax behaviour and flame stability in the specific container.
All technical parameters of the packaging are specified in the attached Packaging Quality Certificate and in the product parameters.
The choice of wooden wick depends on the container diameter, the wax used and the amount of fragrance. We recommend starting with test fills in the same type of jar or pot in which you plan to produce the candles and testing several wick sizes. Observe whether the wax melts evenly across the entire surface and whether the flame is stable, without excessive smoking or extinguishing. In this way you will find the optimal combination for the specific product.
The wooden wick is designed as a consumable component that is gradually burned away during use, so it is not normally reused in the same candle. However, you can reuse the container, jar or pot after the candle has burned out with a new wick and wax. When reusing the container, always remove wax residues, clean it mechanically and thoroughly disinfect it with a suitable agent, for example IPA 99 % isopropyl alcohol or ethanol 96 % denatured plant-based, to ensure hygiene and good adhesion of the new wax.
For stable attachment of the wooden wick, a metal or wooden holder is usually used, or an adhesive point made from heat-resistant hot-melt glue. Firmly attach the holder or wick base to the bottom of the container and check that the wick is centred. Only then gradually pour in the wax. For larger container diameters you can additionally fix the wick at the top with a holder so that it remains vertical and in the exact position while the wax is cooling.
After the candle has burned out, allow the container to cool completely, then remove any remaining wax and the wick remnant. Clean the container mechanically, and if needed, briefly warm it in a warm water bath so that you can easily wipe away wax residues. Then wash it with a suitable detergent, rinse and disinfect it before the next fill, for example using IPA 99 % isopropyl alcohol or ethanol 96 % denatured plant-based. A container prepared in this way is suitable for repeated use, provided normal hygiene principles are observed.
If you decide not to reuse the container, we recommend first removing wax residues and mechanical parts (wick holder, wick remnants). The further method of recycling depends on the material, which is specified in the parameters of the specific packaging on the product page. Glass containers usually go into the glass recycling bin, plastic packaging into sorted plastic waste according to the material designation. Follow the recycling symbols and the recommendations given in the parameter table so that the packaging is disposed of in the most environmentally friendly way possible.
The simplest way is to use the advanced filter in the packaging category. After clicking on the relevant category, you will find the filter at the top of the page, where you can clearly sort packaging according to neck type, size, colour and material. This allows you to quickly select suitable bottles, pots or jars for your cosmetics or candles and easily combine them with accessories such as wicks, closures or applicators.
