How the set works and how to fill it

The bottle has a threaded neck onto which the pump screws directly. A dip tube runs from the pump to the bottom of the bottle; when the head is pressed, the contents are drawn up and pushed out through the nozzle. The first few presses serve to prime the tube and pump head, so the dose only appears after several presses. This is normal behaviour for any pump dispenser.

When filling, distinguish between the nominal and total volume. The nominal volume is the amount the container is rated for under normal filling conditions. The total volume to the brim is the physical capacity right up to the neck. The difference is a reserve for the dip tube and the lower part of the pump, which takes up space once screwed in, and for expansion of the contents with temperature change. The bottle should therefore be filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim – otherwise the contents will overflow through the neck when the pump is screwed on.

Suitable for products such as

• Facial oils and oil serums – liquid vegetable oils and their blends with oil-soluble actives, where one to two doses is enough for the whole face.
• Cuticle oils and hair-end oils – a small amount applied directly to the area, where a dropper often delivers too much.
• Samples and travel sizes – the contents will not spill during transport, and the customer tries the product in the same way as a full-size pack.
• Light liquid water-based serums – the pump is not limited to oils and reliably doses any sufficiently thin liquid product.

Less suitable are thick oils and blends with butters, gels, and products with solid particles – for example, scrubs or blends with plant sediment – which may clog the tube and valve.

Good to know

Preparation before first filling. We recommend washing the bottle and pump, sanitising them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol, rinsing the dip tube, and allowing everything to dry completely. An anhydrous oil does not require a preservative, but residual water has no place in an oil product as it promotes microbial growth.

Indicative dose. One press delivers approximately 0.18 ml, equivalent to a few drops. A bottle with a nominal volume of 10 ml therefore yields approximately 50 doses. The actual number depends on the viscosity of the contents and how much remains in the tube.

Content viscosity. The pump is designed for liquid oils. Thicker oils – such as castor oil – or blends with a proportion of butters are harder to pump and may stop dispensing altogether in cold conditions. With such formulations, we recommend testing the behaviour on a single unit before a larger filling run.

Plastic and formulation compatibility. The PET bottle is resistant to vegetable oils. With a higher proportion of essential oils, ethanol, or other solvents, we recommend testing the container's behaviour with the specific formulation on a sample, as with any plastic container. Fill the contents cooled to room temperature; the plastic is not intended for hot filling.

Label. The bottle has a small cylindrical surface, so a narrow wraparound label is the best fit. No label should be applied to the transparent cap.

Reuse and recycling. The bottle can be reused after thorough washing and sanitising. The pump is harder to clean internally; we recommend rinsing it with ethanol and pumping it empty. If the smell of the previous contents lingers, replace it. The PET bottle belongs in sorted plastic waste; separate the pump from the bottle before disposal.
