Glyceryl stearate is a mixture of parts of glycerin and stearic acid. Glyceryl Stearate (Citrhol GMS 40) is a 100% natural product, approved by COSMOS and Ecocert. It functionsas an emollient, a non-ionic surfactant with low HBL and an emulsifier in skin care products.It is aneffective coemulsifier for water-in-oil and oil-in-water emulsions. It also acts as an emulsion stabilizer and viscosity modifier of the final product. With its soothing and moisturizing effects, Gylceryl Stearate can be used in a wide range of personal care products.

Although it is found naturally in the human body and can be derived from animals, most glyceryl stearate used in cosmetics is derived from plants (such as olive oil or coconut) or produced synthetically. In its raw form, it is a white or cream-coloured waxy solid.
