Product description

This glass medicine bottle with a treatment pump is designed for storing and precisely dispensing small amounts of oil-based preparations: facial oils, oil serums, blends with essential oils, nail and cuticle oils, or customer samples. The 10 ml volume is enough for one recipe or a test batch. The opaque white glass also limits the amount of light reaching the contents, which you will appreciate with oils that are sensitive to oxidation. The set consists of the bottle, a black pump with a dip tube and a clear overcap that protects the pump head from dust and accidental pressing. All three parts are declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products.

What the set is suitable for

  • Facial and body oils in small packaging – one press releases a small dose, so the oil does not spill and is not wasted.
  • Oil serums and blends with essential oils – the contents are dispensed without opening the bottle and without contact with fingers, and the white glass also shields the contents from light.
  • Nail, eyebrow and eyelash oils – the small volume and precise dose suit products of which only a few drops are used.
  • Samples and travel packs – the bottle fits into a cosmetic bag, and the overcap protects the pump from being pressed in luggage.

Dispensing and filling

One press of the pump releases approximately 0.18 ml of the contents. For a full bottle this corresponds to about 55 doses, which helps when planning the pack size and when writing the usage instructions. The pump is designed for liquid oils and thin oil serums. It may struggle to draw up thicker preparations, balms or oils with added thickener, or may not draw them up at all. Therefore, check how the pump behaves with your specific formulation before filling a whole batch.

The nominal volume of the bottle is 10 ml. The brimful capacity given in the parameters is larger. The difference provides a margin for the pump dip tube, which takes up part of the space once screwed in, and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. For this reason, fill the bottle only up to the nominal volume, never up to the neck. If it is overfilled, the oil will overflow through the thread when the pump is inserted.

The dip tube of the pump is longer than the bottle. Shorten it with a diagonal cut so that it ends just above the bottom. The pump then draws up the contents right to the end and no dead volume is left.

Before first use, prime the pump by pressing it several times until the dip tube and the pump head fill with oil. The first doses are often smaller or incomplete.

Good to know

Before the first filling, wash the bottle, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let it dry completely so that no water gets into the oil-based product. It is enough to rinse the pump and the dip tube with alcohol and dry them.

The level of the contents cannot be seen through the white glass. For this reason, fill by weight on a scale during production. During use, you can tell the pack is running out when the pump starts to draw in air.

The bottle neck has an 18 mm thread. Closures with the same neck type and other ready-made bottle and closure combinations can be found in the Handymade range. If you make your own combination, we recommend checking the tightness and dispensing with your specific formulation.

Both the dip tube and the pump head are made of plastic. For blends with a high proportion of essential oils, citrus oils or solvents, we recommend testing before filling a larger quantity whether the plastic becomes cloudy or softens over time. The overcap is made of polystyrene (PS) and is sorted as plastic, while the glass bottle belongs in glass recycling once the pump has been separated.

After thorough cleaning and disinfection, the bottle can be reused. The pump is difficult to clean on the inside, and residues of the previous oil in the dip tube and pump mechanism may mix with the new contents. When switching to a different product, we recommend replacing it with a new one.

Frequently asked questions

How much oil does one press of the pump on a 10 ml medicine bottle dispense?
One press releases approximately 0.18 ml. A full bottle with a nominal volume of 10 ml therefore yields about 55 doses. The actual number depends on how thoroughly the bottle was filled and how much of the contents remains on the bottom below the end of the dip tube. With thicker oils the dose may be smaller.
Can the bottle with a treatment pump be filled to the brim?
No, it is filled only up to the nominal volume of 10 ml. The brimful capacity is larger and serves as a margin for the pump dip tube and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. If the bottle is overfilled, the oil overflows through the thread when the pump is screwed in and the packaging gets dirty.
Does the white glass medicine bottle protect the contents from light?
Yes, the opaque white glass limits the amount of light reaching the contents, which is an advantage with oils that are sensitive to oxidation. The drawback is that the level of the contents cannot be seen. When filling, it is therefore advisable to work by weight, and during use to expect that the end of the pack will become apparent when the pump starts drawing in air.
How do I prepare a medicine bottle with a pump before the first filling?
The bottle is washed, disinfected with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and left to dry completely. The pump and the dip tube are rinsed with alcohol and dried. After filling and screwing in the pump, prime it by pressing it several times so that the dip tube and the pump head fill with oil and the doses are complete from the start.
Why does the pump on the 10 ml bottle not draw up thicker oil?
The pump is designed for liquid oils with low viscosity. Thicker products, oils with a thickener or balms do not manage to flow through the dip tube and pump head when pressed, so the dose is small or there is none at all. For such recipes, a jar or a bottle with a dropper is more suitable, or the recipe can be adjusted to a thinner consistency.
