Allantoin (Glyxoyldiueide) is a moisturizer that helps to remove skin irritation caused by certain surfactants, cleansing agents (surfactants) or oils. It helps in lower concentrations (up to 1%) to moisturize and soften the skin, at concentrations above 1% it promotes the growth of new skin cells.

It is an organic urea-based compound that occurs naturally in horse chestnut, comfrey, maple or wheat germ. This substance is ideal in the care of mature, aging and dry skin. Allantoin is popularly used in products for the treatment of acne, psoriasis, eczema, dermatitis or sunburn due to its soothing and antibacterial properties . It is also added to products intended for the treatment of children's skin.

When used in antiperspirants , theuse of allantoin helps counteract irritation caused by some of the more aggressive active ingredients.

By increasing the water-binding capacity of corneocytes, allantoin strengthens the skin's natural barrier protection and improves its ability to retain water. Allantoin exfoliates dry and damaged cells and enhances the skin's radiant appearance.

It is very soluble in water. However, its solubility in water depends on the amount used; when dosing more than 0.5%, we recommend heating the aqueous phase to a temperature of 40 - 70°C.

Solubility of allantoin in different solvents:

Water at 20°C - 0.4%

Water at 70°C - 4.0%

Ethanol at 20°C -0.4%

5% glycerine in water at 20°C - 0.8%

Propylene glycol at 25°C - 0.3%

Recommended pH of the final product: 4-8

Dosage: 0.05 - 3%
