Product description
The glass roll-on bottle with a volume of 100 ml is intended for massage and body oils, oil blends with essential oils, liquid deodorants and cooling muscle preparations, which are applied directly to the skin with a roller ball without using your hands. The set consists of an amber glass medicine bottle with an 18/410 neck finish, a metal roller ball in a plastic holder and a black plastic cap. Amber glass filters light, so it is suitable for contents that are sensitive to oxidation, especially vegetable oils and blends with essential oils.
Compared with common small roll-ons, the larger volume allows you to apply the preparation to larger areas of the body, for example the back, thighs or calves, where a small 10 ml bottle would run out quickly. The whole set is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetics. You will find the declaration of conformity on the product page.
What it is suited for
- Massage and body oils – the roller ball spreads the oil over the skin in a thin layer, and dispensing is more economical than pouring from a bottle.
- Oil blends with essential oils – massage blends for muscles and feet, or aromatherapy blends for the wrists and temples.
- Liquid deodorants and body tonics – both water-based and alcohol-based contents, applied with the roller ball to smaller areas.
- Cooling and warming preparations – liquid gels and lower-viscosity solutions where hands-free application makes sense.
How to use the roll-on
After filling the bottle, press the roller ball with its holder into the neck until it sits flush all the way round. The holder stays in the neck by its own shape, not by a thread. Then screw the cap onto the 18/410 thread so that it covers the roller ball and the contents are not pushed out when the bottle is carried.
The roller ball works best with liquid to slightly viscous contents. Oils, alcohol solutions, water-based tonics and thin gels are applied evenly. The roller ball will not turn with thick creams, butters or gels of high viscosity, and the contents stay in the bottle.
Before filling a whole batch, test how the preparation behaves with the roller ball on a small amount. If the contents are applied poorly, the formulation is too thick and needs to be thinned or the proportion of thickener reduced.
The bottle can also be used on its own, without the roller ball, with a different closure for the same type of neck. You will find closures with an 18/410 neck finish and ready-made bottle and closure combinations in the Handymade range. If you make your own combination, we recommend checking the tightness with your specific formulation.
Volume and filling
The nominal volume of 100 ml is the amount the bottle is designed for under normal filling. The brimful capacity is the physical volume up to the top of the neck and is given in the parameters. The difference between them is a reserve for the roller ball holder, which takes up part of the space in the neck once inserted, and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. Fill up to the nominal volume. If you fill to the brim, the contents are pushed out when the roller ball is pressed in and the bottle may leak.
Good to know
Before the first filling, wash the bottle and the roller ball with its holder, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave them to dry completely. Residual water in the neck or under the roller ball may shorten the shelf life of anhydrous oil-based preparations.
Glass is resistant to essential oils, alcohol and vegetable oils and does not absorb fragrance. The roller ball holder is made of polypropylene and is in permanent contact with the contents. For preparations with a high proportion of undiluted essential oils or with solvents, we recommend checking how the plastic parts behave with your specific formulation.
Only the glass bottle on its own has a certificate for direct contact with food. The cap and the roller ball do not have one, so the set as a whole is intended for cosmetics.
The roller ball with its holder can be removed and refitted, which makes washing and repeated use easier. When removing it, slide a spoon or a blunt tool under the edge of the holder so that it is not damaged. If the holder no longer sits firmly in the neck after repeated removal, replace it. At the end of its life, the glass belongs in glass waste and the plastic parts in plastics.
