Product description
The blue glass roll-on bottle, 15 ml is used to apply liquid preparations directly to the skin, without a dropper and without touching them with your fingers. The set consists of a glass medicine bottle, an insert with a metal roller ball and a black plastic cap, so it is ready to use once filled. This type of packaging is typically used for perfume oils, aromatherapy blends of essential oils in a carrier oil, or oil serums for small areas of skin.
Blue glass lets through less light than clear glass, so contents that are sensitive to sunlight, such as essential oils and volatile fragrance components, last longer without changes. The 15 ml volume is a travel or handbag size. The contents are used up before they have time to change, and the bottle takes up little space.
What it is good for
- Perfume oils – a fragrance composition diluted in a carrier oil is applied to the wrists, neck or behind the ears without spraying it into the air.
- Aromatherapy blends – diluted essential oils for the temples, nape of the neck or wrists. The ball spreads a small amount evenly and thinly.
- Oil serums for small areas – oils for the cuticles, the eye contour or the lips, where a few drops per application are enough.
- Thin liquids – the ball only rolls with contents of low viscosity. Thick oils, gels and butters will not pass through it.
How the set works
The insert with the ball is pressed into the neck of the bottle and holds firmly in place. When the bottle is turned upside down, the ball is wetted by the contents, and when rolled over the skin it leaves a thin layer that is quickly absorbed or spread. The steel ball feels cool on the skin, which is especially useful for blends for the temples. The cap is screwed on over the insert and protects the ball from dust between uses.
All three parts have the same neck finish. You will find spare caps, inserts and other ready-made combinations with this neck finish in the Handymade range. If you make your own combination, we recommend checking the tightness with your specific formulation.
Volume and filling
The nominal volume of 15 ml is the amount the bottle is designed for in normal filling. The total volume to the brim is larger and is given in the parameters. The difference provides room for the insert with the ball, which extends into the neck, and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. For this reason, fill the bottle to the nominal volume. If it is overfilled, part of the contents is pushed out through the neck when the insert is pressed in, and the insert may not seat properly.
Fill the narrow neck slowly using a small funnel, a dropper or a syringe without a needle. Press in the insert only after filling. Before screwing on the cap, turn the bottle upside down and check that the ball dispenses and that the neck does not leak.
Good to know
- Before the first filling, wash the bottle, insert and cap, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave them to dry completely. Residual water in oil-based contents reduces their stability.
- Materials – the insert and cap are made of polypropylene, the ball of steel. The plastic cap and the insert with the ball are declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products. No such declaration is available for the glass bottle on its own. The set is not intended for food use.
- Temperature – glass does not tolerate sudden temperature changes. Let warmed oil blends or massage oils cool down before filling.
- Water-based and alcohol-based contents – first check the tightness of the insert and the behaviour of the ball with such a formulation. Water-based preparations also need preservation, because the ball touches the skin with every use and returns into the bottle.
- Reuse – the bottle, insert and cap can be refilled after cleaning and disinfection. If the fragrance changes significantly, it is worth replacing the insert with a new one.
- Sorting – the bottle goes into glass recycling, the cap and insert into plastics, and the ball is metal.
Undiluted essential oils and solvents may affect the plastic insert during long-term contact. Blends in a carrier oil are common. With concentrated or unusual contents, first test the behaviour of the insert on one bottle.
