Product description
The 10 ml glass medicine bottle with a nasal sprayer is a ready-made set for small volumes of thin cosmetic products that are applied as a fine mist. Amber glass filters light and protects contents that are sensitive to sunlight: hydrosols, aqueous solutions of active ingredients, herbal infusions and light toners. The sprayer releases a small, repeatable amount with every press, so it is suitable for travel sizes, samples and refreshing skin sprays where economical and hygienic dispensing matters.
The set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetics. The glass medicine bottle on its own also has a certificate for direct contact with food, but the sprayer does not, so the set as a whole is not declared for food use. Declarations of conformity and certificates for both components are available on the product page.
What the set consists of
- Glass medicine bottle, type A – amber bottle with a narrow neck and 18/410 neck finish. The glass does not react with common cosmetic raw materials and can be washed and disinfected.
- Nasal sprayer, white – a head with a tube reaching the bottom of the bottle, which sprays the contents in a fine dose. One press releases approximately 0.12 ml, so a large number of identical doses can be measured out from a filled bottle. The mechanism combines plastic, steel and glass parts.
Both components have the same neck finish, so they fit together without any additional adapters. You can find closures with the same neck finish, as well as other ready-made bottle + closure combinations, in the Handymade range. If you make your own combination, we recommend checking the tightness, dispensing and behaviour of the packaging with your specific formulation.
Nominal volume and brimful volume
The nominal volume of 10 ml is the amount the medicine bottle is designed for during normal filling. The brimful volume is the physical volume of the glass up to the top of the neck. The difference between them leaves room for the sprayer tube and for the contents to expand when the temperature changes. For this reason, fill only to the nominal volume. If the bottle is filled to the brim, part of the contents would be pushed out when the sprayer is fitted, and the head might not seat correctly.
What the set is suitable for
It works best with thin water-based products that can be sprayed as a fine mist: hydrosols, toners, solutions with water-soluble active ingredients, and refreshing face or hair sprays in travel sizes. The small volume is also suitable for customer samples or for testing a new recipe before making a larger batch.
Small sprayers are generally unable to spray thicker emulsions, oils or products containing a thickener evenly, and the head may become blocked. Check the behaviour with your formulation on a single bottle before filling the whole batch.
Preparation and filling
Before the first filling, wash the medicine bottle, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let it dry completely. Even glass that looks clean can carry dust from production and transport. Rinse the sprayer with clean water or alcohol before fitting it and let it drain.
The sprayer tube is supplied longer than the height of the medicine bottle. Before fitting it, shorten it with a diagonal cut so that it reaches the bottom of the bottle. Otherwise the head cannot be tightened and the contents cannot be used up completely.
After filling, tighten the head by hand and press several times to fill the tube and the mechanism, until an even spray appears. The first doses contain air, so they are weaker.
Glass does not tolerate sudden changes in temperature well. Do not pour a hot solution into a cold medicine bottle, and do not move a filled set directly from a cold place into a warm one, as the wall or base may crack.
Good to know
- Reuse – after washing and disinfecting, the medicine bottle can be filled again. We recommend replacing the sprayer when you change the contents, as the tube and the internal mechanism cannot be cleaned reliably.
- Essential oils and alcohol – with a high proportion of essential oils or alcohol, check whether the plastic parts of the sprayer soften or lose tightness over time. The glass medicine bottle itself has no problem with such contents.
- Recycling – glass belongs with glass. The sprayer is made of several materials, so unscrew it before disposal and sort it separately.
