A complete roll-on kit: a transparent glass bottle 30 ml, a metal ball in a plastic socket, and a black plastic cap. All three parts share the same neck type, so the packaging just needs to be filled, the ball pressed in, and the cap closed. It is intended for liquid preparations applied directly to the skin by rolling – perfume oils, diluted essential oil blends for pulse points, or oil serums for targeted application.

Transparent glass lets the colour of the contents stand out, which you will appreciate with tinted oils or gift packaging. Glass does not react with oils or alcohol-based solutions, so it is also suitable for fragrance compositions with a higher proportion of essential oils. The kit is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetics; it is not approved for food contact.

How a roll-on works

The steel ball sits in a plastic socket that is pressed into the neck after filling the bottle. When turned upside down and drawn across the skin, the ball rotates and transfers a thin layer of liquid. The dose is small and even, the preparation does not spill, and hands remain clean. That is exactly why roll-on is used with concentrated fragrance oils and targeted preparations where precise application of a small amount matters.

The cap screws onto the bottle thread and covers the entire socket with the ball. It protects it from dust and prevents leakage when carried in a bag. The metal ball feels pleasantly cool on contact, which is used in preparations for the eye area or temples.

Nominal and total volume

With roll-on packaging, the difference between the two volumes is more important than with a standard bottle. Nominal volume is the volume for which the packaging is designed under normal filling. Total volume to the rim is the physical volume up to the neck. The difference forms a reserve into which the ball socket is inserted after filling, and also space for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. Fill to the nominal volume, not to the rim. Otherwise, when pressing in the ball, some of the contents will be pushed out and the liquid will get onto the thread. Both values can be found in the product parameters.

Which preparations it is suitable for

• Perfume oils – a blend of a fragrance composition or essential oils in a carrier oil (jojoba, fractionated coconut, sunflower) is classic roll-on use; the oil is applied precisely to the wrists, neck, or behind the ears.
• Diluted essential oils for pulse points – aromatherapy blends for calming or refreshment, always at a safe dilution in a carrier oil.
• Oil serums for targeted use – preparations for the eye area or minor blemishes, where a small dose and the cooling touch of the ball are appreciated.
• Light alcohol-based solutions – thin liquids roll well, but with alcohol-based contents we recommend checking the tightness of the plastic socket and cap with the specific formulation.

Conversely, thick creams, gels with higher viscosity, or preparations with undissolved particles cannot be dispensed evenly with the ball. The ball gets stuck or applies too little.

What is good to know when working with the packaging

Transparent glass does not protect the contents from light. For essential oils, oils prone to oxidation, or coloured ingredients, we therefore recommend storing a filled roll-on in the dark or in a box and not leaving it in direct sunlight. If light protection is essential, choose dark glass packaging.

Before filling the bottle for the first time, wash it, rinse it, and let it dry completely. Glass can be disinfected with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol. The ball socket and cap just need to be rinsed and dried; do not leave them submerged in alcohol for long when disinfecting. Traces of water in an oil preparation reduce its stability.

The ball socket is made of plastic. With blends containing a high proportion of essential oils or with solvents, it is advisable to verify the behaviour of the plastic in the finished formulation, especially if the preparation is to remain in the packaging for a longer time. With ordinarily diluted fragrance oils, no problems are expected.

The bottle is designed for repeated use. For recycling, glass belongs in glass waste and plastic parts separately among plastics.
