Product description

The green glass bottle with a roller ball and a black cap is a complete packaging set for 10 ml of liquid product applied directly to the skin with a roller. Green glass filters part of the light, so it suits contents that are sensitive to light, for example fragrance oils, essential oil blends in a carrier oil, or oil serums for nails and cuticles. The set includes the bottle, a steel ball in a plastic seat, and a cap that covers the ball after use and protects the contents from drying out and from dirt. All three parts are declared suitable for contact with cosmetics.

What the roll-on is suitable for

The roller dispenses the contents in small amounts and applies them to the exact spot without your fingers touching the contents. It is therefore particularly suitable for:

  • Roll-on perfumes and fragrance oils – applied to the wrists, neck or behind the ears, with no spilling of the contents.
  • Essential oil blends in a carrier oil – for example for the temples, nape or wrists, where only a few drops need to be applied.
  • Oil serums for nails and cuticles – the ball spreads the oil directly around the nail bed.
  • Topical oil-based or alcohol-based preparations – applied to a small area of skin without a cotton pad or dropper.

A roll-on only works with liquid contents that the ball can transfer to the skin as it turns. The roller handles oils, alcohol solutions, water-based solutions and thin serums. It cannot push through thick gels, creams and balms, and the contents will not reach the skin.

Bottle volume

The nominal volume of 10 ml is the volume the bottle is designed for in normal filling. The brimful volume is the physical volume up to the neck, and you will find it in the parameters. The difference between them is a reserve for the ball seat, which pushes part of the contents upwards when it is inserted, and for the expansion of the contents with changes in temperature. Fill up to the nominal volume, not to the brim.

Fill the bottle to 10 ml and insert the ball over a sink or a paper towel. If the bottle was overfilled, a small amount of the contents will overflow when the seat is pressed into the neck.

How to work with the set

Before the first filling, wash the bottle, the seat with the ball and the cap, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol, and leave them to dry completely. Pour the contents into the bottle, press the seat with the ball into the neck and screw the cap onto the 18/410 neck finish. Before first use, turn the roller several times so that the ball is wetted.

Glass is resistant to oils, alcohol and essential oils. The ball seat and the cap are made of polypropylene, and the ball is steel. For contents with a high proportion of undiluted essential oils or with solvents, we recommend checking whether the plastic parts change shape after prolonged contact and whether the set still seals.

The bottle is made of glass, so do not expose it to sudden changes in temperature when filling. Let hot contents cool down first, otherwise the glass may crack.

Good to know

  • Seal – before carrying the bottle in a bag, when transporting a larger number of pieces, or with very thin contents, check that it seals with your specific formulation, ideally by laying the filled bottle on its side.
  • Reuse – once empty, the bottle can be washed and filled again. The ball seat may be damaged when it is prised out of the neck, so check that it seals after reinserting it.
  • Water-based contents – the ball also spreads water-based solutions and hydrosols, but such a formulation must be preserved.
  • Other closures – the bottle has an 18/410 neck finish, and you will find closures with the same neck type, as well as ready-made combinations, in the Handymade range. If you make your own combination, we recommend checking the seal and the dispensing.
  • Recycling – glass goes with glass, the cap with plastics, and the ball seat is a combination of plastic and steel.

Frequently asked questions

Does the green roll-on bottle protect the contents from light?
The green roll-on bottle protects the contents from light only partially. Green glass filters part of the light, not the whole spectrum. For fragrance oils, essential oil blends and oil serums, this is enough for normal storage out of direct sunlight. Store contents that are very sensitive to light in the dark, regardless of the colour of the glass.
What contents can be dispensed with a roller ball?
Only liquid contents that transfer freely to the skin as the ball moves can be dispensed with a roller ball. Vegetable oils, fragrance oils, alcohol solutions, hydrosols and thin serums work without problems. Thick gels, creams, balms and contents with undissolved particles will not pass through the roller, and the ball may get stuck.
How many ml should I put in a 10 ml roll-on bottle?
A 10 ml roll-on bottle is filled with 10 ml, which is its nominal volume. The brimful volume is larger, and the difference is a reserve for the ball seat, which pushes part of the contents upwards when it is inserted. If you fill to the brim, the contents will overflow when the ball is pressed in and the bottle may not seal.
Can the roll-on bottle be used for an alcohol-based perfume?
Yes, the roll-on bottle can also be used for an alcohol-based perfume. Glass is resistant to alcohol, and the ball spreads an alcohol solution in the same way as an oil. Alcohol-based perfume evaporates faster from the roller, so always tighten the cap after use. For contents with a high proportion of undiluted essential oils, we recommend checking how the plastic ball seat behaves.
Can the metal ball be removed from the roll-on bottle so the bottle can be refilled?
Yes, the seat with the ball can be prised out of the neck of the roll-on bottle, for example with the blunt side of a knife. The seat may be deformed in the process and may not seal when reinserted. Before refilling, wash the bottle, the ball and the cap, and disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol. If the seat does not seal, use a new ball.
Is a roll-on bottle with a ball suitable for water-based contents, for example a hydrosol?
Yes, a roll-on bottle with a ball also spreads water-based solutions and hydrosols. Because the roller repeatedly touches the skin and returns to the contents, a water-based formulation must be preserved. With water-based contents, we also recommend checking that the roller does not leak when the bottle is laid on its side.
