Vitamins and antioxidants – active ingredients for the skin, hair and formulation stability

The vitamins and antioxidants category offers proven active ingredients for improving skin comfort, supporting balance and protecting against oxidative stress. The range includes hydrophilic vitamins suitable for the water phase as well as lipophilic derivatives that are ideal for oil serums, balms and emulsions.

Vitamins are selected according to their solubility (water/oil), target pH and product type (serum, emulsion, oil-based care). Antioxidants also contribute to the stability of oily components and fragrances over time, thereby improving the overall quality of the product.

Documentation: The complete documentation includes the Safety Data Sheet (SDS), Certificate of Analysis (CoA), IFRA standards and the allergen list.

Hydrophilic vitamins (water phase)

Niacinamide (Vitamin B3) and Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine HCl) are easily incorporated into toners, serums and emulsions with a water phase. Niacinamide is universal for daily care products; B6 is used mainly in cleansing products and in care for skin with a tendency to sebum overproduction. Easy dosing and excellent compatibility in the water phase.

Lipophilic forms of Vitamin C (oil phase)

THDA (Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate) is an oil-soluble form of Vitamin C suitable for serums and emulsions with a higher oil content. Stable and sensorially pleasant even at lower dosage. To complement the range, you will also find Ascorbyl Palmitate, which is used in the oil phase. Stable forms of “C” for comfortable oil-based formulations.

Vitamin E – antioxidant for oils and emulsions

To protect oily components and cosmetic fragrances against oxidation, Tocopherol (96 %) is used. As a skin conditioner with pleasant sensory properties, Tocopheryl Acetate is suitable; it is stable and suitable for creams and body lotions. Proven antioxidant protection and comfort in the formulation.

Biotin (Vitamin H) – specialist for hair and nail formulations

Biotin USP is used at low dosage levels in hair tonics, shampoos and special serums. It is advisable to combine it with the water phase and with carriers that support dispersibility. Low dosage, high effectiveness in the target products.

Stabilised “C” in liquid form

For products requiring liquid dosing, stabilised Vitamin C – liquid is available (for some volumes it may be temporarily unavailable). It is suitable for water-based serums and toners. Convenient dosing and integration into “water-based” formulations.

FAQ – Frequently asked questions

How to choose between a hydrophilic and a lipophilic form of a vitamin?

Follow the product carrier: water-based serums and toners prefer hydrophilic forms (e.g. Niacinamide), while oil serums and emulsions with a higher oil content make use of lipophilic derivatives (THDA, Ascorbyl Palmitate, Tocopherol).

Can I combine several vitamins in one product?

Yes, this is often done for a synergistic effect (e.g. Niacinamide + Vitamin C derivative + Vitamin E). Pay attention to compatibility, pH and solubility; first test in small stability and sensory trials.

When should I include an antioxidant in the formula if I already use plant oils?

For oils prone to oxidation (unsaturated oils, fragrance components), Vitamin E is suitable in almost all cases. Tocopherol protects the blend against yellowing and odour change during storage and use.

How to dose Niacinamide in an emulsion or serum?

Adjust the dosage according to the target product; low to medium percentages are commonly used, depending on skin type and the other actives. Monitor pH and solubility in the water phase and always verify stability.
