Product description
This blue glass medicine bottle with a roll-on applicator holds 10 ml and is used for filling and spot application of liquid preparations: essential oil blends in a carrier oil, perfume oils, oil-based eye and facial serums, or lip oils. Blue glass filters light and helps protect the contents from its effects, which matters especially for oils and fragrance blends that deteriorate over time when exposed to light. The metal roller ball applies a small amount to the skin exactly where it is needed, without touching it with your fingers and without dripping.
The set consists of three parts that fit together: a medicine bottle with an 18/410 neck finish, a roll-on insert with a clear plastic body and a steel roller ball, and a black plastic cap. After filling, the insert is pressed into the neck of the bottle and the cap is screwed onto the thread. When carried in a bag, the cap protects the roller ball from dirt and the contents from leaking. The whole set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products.
What the roll-on is suitable for
- Aromatherapy blends – essential oils diluted in a carrier oil for the temples, wrists or back of the neck. The roller ball spreads only a thin layer, so the blend is used sparingly.
- Perfume oils – alcohol-free oil-based perfumes applied to pulse points. The 10 ml volume is a handbag or travel size.
- Eye serums and oils for the eye area – the steel roller ball feels cooling on the skin and allows you to apply a small amount without pulling the skin.
- Lip oils and cuticle oils – precise spot application without getting your hands dirty.
- Samples and trial batches – a small volume in which you can try a new blend before making a larger quantity.
Filling and volume
The nominal volume of 10 ml is the amount the bottle is intended for in normal filling. The total brimful volume is slightly larger. The difference between the two values is a reserve for the roll-on insert, which takes up part of the neck once pressed in, and for the expansion of the contents with temperature changes. For this reason, fill only up to the nominal volume, never to the brim.
A small funnel or a syringe without a needle helps when filling, so that the contents do not spill onto the thread. The insert is then placed on the neck and pressed in with even pressure until it sits fully around the whole circumference. Finally, screw on the cap.
After pressing in the insert, turn the bottle upside down and run the roller ball across your palm several times. This confirms that the insert fits tightly and that the contents reach the roller ball evenly.
Good to know
Before first use, we recommend washing all three parts, disinfecting them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leaving them to dry completely. This also applies to the roll-on insert and the roller ball, where residual water could dilute an oil-based filling.
The roll-on applicator is intended for oils and thin liquids. Thick balms or gels will not pass through the roller ball, and very thin water-based contents may dispense unevenly. We recommend checking the behaviour of the plastic insert and the tightness of the set directly with your formulation, especially for blends with a higher proportion of essential oils or those containing alcohol.
Glass does not tolerate sudden temperature changes. Pour already cooled contents into the bottle and do not heat it together with the filling, so that it does not crack.
The bottle can be reused. The insert can be carefully pried out, but when refitting it, check that it holds firmly and does not leak. If the roller ball turns stiffly after a longer period of non-use, it is usually enough to clean off the dried contents. When disposing of it, separate the glass from the plastic insert and the cap and sort them by material.
The set is intended for cosmetics. It is not approved for contact with food, so it is not suitable for edible oils or syrups. If you want to use the bottle with a different type of closure, you will find closures with the same neck type in the Handymade range, as well as ready-made combinations of bottle and closure. For your own combination, we recommend checking the tightness and dispensing with the specific contents.
